Every fall, our district hosts their Pastors Conference in Rapid Ctiy, SD. While there is a session for the wives to attend one morning, most of the wives tag along to simply vacation in the part of the state that has so much to offer. We stayed at the Holiday Inn by the Convention Center, so it was a quick walk through Memorial Park to get over to the downtown area. Rapid City is known as the City of Presidents (namely for its proximity to Mount Rushmore), but also because it’s downtown is home to 42 statues of each president from Washington to George W. Bush. (The Obama sculpture is “coming soon”.)
This kept me entertained for a large portion of the morning as it’s a free attraction to visit and is spread over many blocks throughout the downtown area. I found a map here and took a screen shot of the map to have handy on my phone. I will say that after awhile I did get tired and called it quits before tracking down all of the presidents. However, if I remember correctly I managed to track down over 30 of them!
I only snagged a few pictures of some of my more favorite sculptures seeing as how I was trying not to look too “touristy”. Although there were 2 other couples who appeared to be out hunting the sculptures as well. Below I’ve included those few photos I did take to give you a taste of what the City of Presidents Walk is like!
As you can see from the last photo, the attention to detail in these sculptures is amazing! I definitely plan to go back and check out some of the others that I missed in years to come!
